DEFINING THE PROBLEM
Many years of pumping super-saturated brine water from an ancient Sub-terrainian Lake under the Mkalagadi Salt Pans had all but completely destroyed the pump components & were earmarked for scrapping & disposal.
Corrocoat SA took on the challenge of rehabilitating the components back to OEM Spec, remembering the adage of:
Reduce – Re-use – Recycle.
DESIGN REQUIREMENTS
The design brief was simple:
Bring the components back to OEM Specification in order that the components can be pressed back into service.
SCOPE OF WORK
Commencing with breaking off hardened salt from the components, caked on over years of immersion in brine, Corrocoat then commenced with decontamination washing and blast cleaning iterations until the levels of retained metallic salts were reduced to acceptable levels. This was achieved using Chlor*Rid decontamination solution. Once sufficiently cleaned, Corrocoat commenced reclamation & rehabilitation using the POLYGLASS range of liquid Polymers and woven roving glassfibre laminates.

Corrocoat structural linings reinforced with glassflake are used together with GRP & FRP composite laminates to add back enough structural strength for the refurbished component to have a longer corrosion life than that of a new component.
