PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Internal refurbishment of Cooling Water feed & Return
Ducts for Units 1, 2 & 3 – Large South African Power Station.

INDUSTRY BACKGROUND
A quarter of a Century has passed since the last time
a half-station shutdown has been undertaken at the
Power Station.

SCOPE OF WORK
Remove ± 9000 Cathodic Protection anode brackets;
UHP Water-jet 24 000 SQM to remove 3000 tons of
Calcium carbonate scale build-up;
Weld up 300 probe holes;
Abrasive blast clean & re-coat 24 000 SQM of surface
Area under shutdown conditions, 24 hours a day,
7 days a week until complete.

PRODUCTS USED
CORROCOAT ZIP-E – a glass flake filled solvent free Amine-cured Epoxy lining.

CORROCOAT CREDENTIALS
This project was completed on a fast-track basis under
shutdown conditions over the Christmas period;
Staff numbers topped out at 194 site crew;
25 000 litres of Corrocoat ZIP-E (Solvent-free Glassflake Epoxy) was used;
1800 tons of abrasive media was used;
9000 Anode brackets removed;
3000 tons calcium carbonate scale was removed.
